a snowy mountain backdrop and a clear, bright, blue autumn day brings the wild bald eagle mates at Jericho Beach to bask on the tree tops, preen, call to each other, then eventually poop and fly off.
Sometimes I go to film 'my' eagles and a stand around for hours with nothing to show for it. Usually I get some short clip or another; but on the very odd occasion, the instant I step into the park I have a wonderful shot.
This morning was such a day. The light was so great I grabbed the camera first thing, before even checking my email or Facebook. The Jericho bald eagle Papa was sitting up in his 'scouting tree', and the moon was gliding rapidly down the horizon behind him.
As the salmon run on the Harrison and Chehalis Rivers draws to a close, the spawned-out salmon start dying off. The easy access to plentiful protein brings eagles from up & down the west coast of North America, and all parts of BC.
I got some footage that shows the nice interaction between the strangers. And one upstart (but very large!) juvenile.
In preparation for the Fraser Valley Bald Eagle Festival (Nov 17-18), an information session was held where a juvie bald eagle (rehabilitated by OWL) was released.
