Wild Bald Eagles still hanging out at Spanish Banks!
probably for another week or so. It just goes to show . .. trust yourself! Of course I like to keep in mind what the experts say (in this case wildlife biologists), but should not be deterred from following my own observations. The difference it seems, is between the 'urban' eagles (mine) and the 'rural' eagles (being studied). I talked to a biologist about it yesterday, suggesting that perhaps -since there is such plentiful fishing around here- the eagles are not as eager to leave as those at, let's say, Sidney BC. Or around White Rock. He agreed with that idea.
I went down to the tidal flats early on Sunday morning. I didn't even bring my tripod! Sure enough, before I even stepped on the sand there were two sitting way out towards the water; my attention was drawn because one (a juvenile, I think) flew up and towards the trees, circling there for a while.
I trotted out, and managed to get some reasonably not shaky footage (damn! NEVER leave the tripod at home!) before it took off. Then, Glory Be!, there was another one, sitting on the sand bar!
This clip is really super-short. It could have been my level of excitement at seeing them still around, or perhaps because it was already coming up on 11:00 and there were more and more people walking out . . . either way I wasn't able to creep as close as I wanted, for as long as I wanted. OH well, there's always tomorrow! (or perhaps this afternoon even, if I can't manage to restrain myself!)
