As promised I went down to Spanish Banks for the low tide again. It seems like there are more eagles about when the weather is crap, but maybe that's just because there's less people around. It rained Saturday morning then got nicer; the film prefers sunny breaks to overcast with drizzle. Low tide wasn't until afternoon though, I got out there early regardless, which turned out to be a good thing.
when I saw how much action there was I got so excited I almost lost my breath. When the tide is out at Spanish Banks it's a good two mile walk to the water line; it takes almost an hour if you are being distracted by eagles flying overhead or if you are walking knee-deep in ocean.
This is not such a good shot of an eagle, but juxtoposed against the city like that I think it's fantastic.
Now I'm getting closer to my target destination; where the currents make almost a 'corner'. Just before the land curves around the point to Wreck Beach, the water laps the sand from the west, open ocean, and from the north, English Bay. There was a total feeding frenzy going on here.
There's a little sand bar at this 'corner' of the ocean, it's really cool because it's usually under a couple of meters of water. It's very odd to be standing out there on dry land, especially when a freighter goes by.
For the next two pics commentary would be superfluous, so I'll just leave it at that. Suffice to say I'll be submitting these to nature magazines. And the camera's all loaded up with film for this weekend!
